Directive 8020: The Dark Pictures Anthology Season 2

Season 1 of The Dark Pictures Anthology has gone off relatively well, especially with the successful release of one of the games (House of Ashes). It is understandable why the fans are a bit dismayed when the game that came right after such a major hit, i.e. The Devil in Me, had reverted to being worse than Man of Medan (the worst being Little Hope), but we can still hope that the anthology in Season 2 will have one good story at least.

Directive 8020 is the first game of The Dark Pictures Anthology Season 2, expected to launch on 2nd October 2025. The game is set on a spaceship, with alien lifeforms expected to take on a form of your allies throughout the game. Kinda like Man of Medan, but instead of hallucinations, you’re dealing with aliens.

Regardless, as players navigate through the dark corridors of the spacecraft, they must make critical decisions that will determine not only their own fate but also those of their companions. Just like all of the other games from The Dark Pictures Anthology.

After the success of Until Dawn, a hit horror game, Supermassive Games started publishing smaller games under The Dark Pictures Anthology banner. The standalone stories have the same gameplay features as Until Dawn, such as the choice-based narrative focus initiated by it, but are quite distinct in the kind of horror they represent. Supermassive has stated that it is looking to have The Dark Pictures Anthology be made up of eight games, and because Season 1 concludes after a fourth release, players can gauge how Directive 8020 will introduce new horrors to the second half of releases of the anthology.

Glancing at the trailer of Directive 8020, the viewers get to see some of the astronauts they will be directing on this perilous mission, and an early glimpse at some of the perils they will encounter. The journey of the astronauts begins innocently enough until The Cassiopeia gets battered by some mysterious barrier, where the crew must endure life-and-death situations as they attempt to repair things. Along the way, they encounter the alien invader, and the real horror is waiting around the corner.

The audience catch a glimpse of the alien transformation mimicry, which will be the addition of body horror to The Dark Pictures Anthology series. Directive 8020 is going to merge the horrors of The Thing and the atmosphere of Ridley Scott’s Alien, offering horror enthusiasts a true sci-fi experience to anticipate.

Hopefully, when this game is finally released, we can get to experience The Dark Pictures Anthology version of The Alien. Maybe they offer a much more interesting take on how we should fear the “unidentified life forms”.
