Xiaomi has officially confirmed the development of a native HarmonyOS version of its Mi Home app, with full compatibility expected by June 2025. This major update will allow Huawei smartphone and tablet users running HarmonyOS NEXT to seamlessly control Xiaomi’s ecosystem of 527 million connected devices, bridging a critical gap in China’s smart home market.
The move comes as Huawei’s latest operating system, HarmonyOS NEXT, has completely dropped Android app support, leaving millions of users unable to access key services like Mi Home. Xiaomi’s decision to develop a dedicated HarmonyOS app follows months of collaboration with Huawei engineers, focusing on optimising support for over 6,000 smart home devices across lighting, security, appliances and more.

Currently, HarmonyOS NEXT users must rely on Huawei’s AppGallery wishlist system to request the app’s release or use limited workarounds. The native version promises full functionality, including remote controls, automation features and firmware updates for Xiaomi’s extensive product range – from robot vacuums to smart lights.
Industry analysts highlight this as a strategic win for HarmonyOS, which now hosts over 10,000 native apps since abandoning Android compatibility in late 2024. With Xiaomi joining other major developers like Meituan and DingTalk in supporting the platform, Huawei’s ecosystem gains crucial momentum against Android and iOS in the Chinese market.
Huawei users can expect the Mi Home app to appear in AppGallery by mid-2025, with early beta testing likely in May. Those wishing to receive launch notifications can currently add the app to their wishlist via the AppGallery interface under My > Wishlist.
