After more than 30 years Yu Yu Hakusho was created, and it remains one of the evergreen anime. To tell you how big its impact is, if you ask people about the opening song and the storyline, people will definitely manage to sing at least the rhythm and summarize the plot for you.
On 12 October 2023, Netflix Japan uploaded a post on its social media platforms, announcing the finalized release date for the new live-action film, Yu Yu Hakusho. After 5 years of blood, sweat, and tears, it is decided to premiere on the 13th December 2023 (and 14th December on Netflix)– that’s not far away!
The new Yu Yu Hakusho is said to reinvent the old Yu Yu Hakusho which was originally published in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1990 to 1994 based on the manga by Yoshihiro Togashi. It is also further hinted that the characters in the new live-action series will not be exactly the same, but will still have their vital authenticity of character. It is a way for the fans to see their beloved characters in a new light, it seems.
However, fans are a bit worried about how Netflix almost always butchered the anime when it comes to live-action remakes. It just regains fans’ trust after the spectacular One Piece live-action series (we’ve covered this in our previous post – here), but the castings for Yu Yu Hakusho worry them. Let’s wait and see how it turns out before we judge it.
